Abstract

Post-terrorism reintegration encompasses the legal, psychological, and social processes through which individuals formerly associated with violent extremist groups re-enter civilian society following disengagement, demobilization, imprisonment, or rehabilitation. Reintegration efforts face numerous challenges, including trauma, stigma, legal restrictions, community distrust, identity reconstruction, and difficulties accessing employment, education, and social support systems. This paper synthesizes interdisciplinary research to examine reintegration as a developmental, psychosocial, and structural process rather than a purely punitive outcome. A new Reintegration Barriers and Support Systems Model (RBSSM) is proposed, mapping challenges across psychological, legal, economic, and relational domains. The paper concludes with policy recommendations focused on trauma-informed interventions, restorative justice, community engagement, and monitoring systems that balance public safety with human rights.
