Trafficking Victims: Rehabilitation Models

Abstract

Human trafficking survivors face complex psychological, physical, legal, and socio-economic challenges long after rescue. Rehabilitation models must offer trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and empowerment-based interventions to support reintegration into society. Through a conceptual analysis and a hypothetical multi-country dataset, this study evaluates different rehabilitation models, including shelter-based recovery, community reintegration, trauma-therapeutic programs, skill development pathways, and survivor-led peer networks. Findings suggest that long-term reintegration is more successful when rehabilitation combines trauma-focused therapy, legal support, socio-economic empowerment, and community inclusion rather than short-term institutional care. A multi-stage rehabilitation framework is proposed.
