Police officers experience high exposure to traumatic events, organizational stressors, moral injury, and social isolation, placing them at elevated risk for suicide compared to the general population. Despite increased awareness, officer suicides often remain underreported because of cultural stigma, institutional secrecy, and administrative classification issues. This study examines psychological predictors of suicide among law enforcement officers across multiple countries using a conceptual framework supported by hypothetical survey data. Key predictors include untreated PTSD, chronic occupational stress, maladaptive coping behaviors (e.g., substance use), identity-role conflict, and exposure to repeated trauma. The study proposes a multi-layered prevention model emphasizing early screening, trauma-informed therapy, peer support systems, and administrative reforms to reduce stigma around mental health.
