Abstract

Internet addiction has become a major global mental health concern, characterized by compulsive online engagement and loss of control over digital behavior. Parallel to this growth is an observed rise in cybercriminal activity, including hacking, fraud, cyberbullying, cyberstalking, online piracy, and extremist recruitment. This paper examines whether compulsive online behavior increases susceptibility to cybercrime participation and how psychological, social, and neurological factors shape deviant digital actions. Through case studies, surveys, psychological models, and criminological theories, the study proposes a Behavioral Cybercrime Propensity Model connecting addiction severity to illegal online activity. Recommendations focus on early intervention, digital wellness programs, and cyber-legal education.
